Bill Browder News StoryThe 21st Maurice Galante Lecture will feature Bill Browder, founder and CEO of Hermitage Capital Management. Browder was the largest foreign investor in Russia until 2005, when he was denied entry to the country for exposing corruption in Russian state-owned companies.

In 2009, Browder’s Russian lawyer, Sergei Magnitsky, was killed in a Moscow prison after uncovering and exposing high-level corruption committed by Russian government officials. In February 2015, Browder published the New York Times bestseller Red Notice: How I Became Putin’s No.1 Enemy, which recounts his experience in Russia and his ongoing fight for justice for Sergei Magnitsky.

Established in celebration of intellectual exchange outside of medicine, the Maurice Galante Lecture Series was created in 1995 in honor of the late Maurice Galante, MD, a UCSF professor emeritus of surgery. Regarded as β€œone of the last generation of real β€˜general’ surgeons,” Galante brought superb technical expertise to a wide variety of surgical procedures.

The lecture, followed by a book signing and reception, will be held on Wednesday, June 13th at 4:00pm at the UCSF Mission Bay campus, Byers Auditorium in Genentech Hall, 600 16th Street.
